A day in Mexico – at the Pink Store in Palomas
Today we decided to walk across the US Mexico Border and have lunch at the famous Pink Store. Within 50 feet of the border several young fellows made a dash in our direction. Two US Customs agents ran towards them. It was a bit disconcerting but I noticed they  all had smiles on their faces so perhaps this is a daily game. We carried on through the border and our next excitement was seeing a pick up truck full of Mexican police coming down the road towards us. They were standing up in the back dressed in what we would call riot gear and they all had rifles. I wanted to photograph them as they came towards us but thought better of that and photographed them from behind when some of them had got out of the truck.

The store has a huge inventory of gift type stuff, and as you walk in the door, the friendly staff offers everyone a free marguerita. Music is played, and the atmosphere is conducive to spending pesos.

Next on the agenda was lunch and although quite tasty, I am sure this type of food makes my heart ask what the heck is she trying to do to me? There was a neat square outside the restaurant with brightly coloured buildings and I went there to take a photograph. Gaila told me later that a head had been discovered in that square, not too long ago, with the body nowhere in sight. Oooooohhhhh…..

For exercise after our siesta, Gaila and I went biking to Columbus, and saw a few neat museum pieces. The town has had a tough time as they are seeing far fewer tourists and several of their leading citizens were arrested for allegedly running guns into Mexico.

Our final event before monopoly and tea was watching the owls in the pine tree while the sun was setting. Another perfect sunny day at Poncho Villa State Park in New Mexico.
